Scavenger Hunt in the Bath Abbey
MADDIE'S WAY OF AVOIDING AN APOLOGY
In DEATH TAKES A BATH, book 1 of A Cotswold Crimes Mystery series, Maddie makes a scavenger hunt inspired by a Sherlock Holmes story to give to Edward. She could, of course, send him an apology, but she's not good at saying she's sorry in the first book. Following are the landmarks on her hunt.
From the gift shop door, walk thirty-seven steps forward to arrive at the Green Man's pew. (As Maddie learns in book 2, the pews in the nave have been removed, including the Green Man, but if you start from the bookstore and walk straight, you can continue the hunt.)
Turn East and go ten paces to the St. George stained glass. (Directly across from St. George with his green dragon is St. Michael with his red dragon, which Maddie confuses when she tries to follow the map herself).
Turn around. Walk ten steps and turn left.
Take twenty-six steps and turn right, then go thirty-two steps. This is the physician's gravestone.
Turn right and go thirty paces near six angels in flight.
The final picture is of Bath Abbey with its glorious fan-vaulted ceiling. A scavenger hunt to find her would not have been necessary, but Maddie needed a distraction.

DEATH PLAYS WITH FIRE: A Cotswold Crimes Mystery book 3
The Chedworth Roman Villa's nymphaeum needs some cleaning, so Maddie and the team come to the rescue and find danger! Be the first to read the back cover copy of DEATH PLAYS WITH FIRE: A Cotswold Crimes Mystery book 3: Release date Dec 4, 2024
A charred heart pinned to her door with an ancient Celtic dagger isn't the worst thing Maddie McGuire has discovered on her doorstep, but it isn't great. In fact, the heart is an unwelcome distraction from protecting the Chedworth Roman Villa from the ravages of winter and throws Maddie into a world of danger. Student workers Jill, Dion, and Gabriel have also joined the dig site, bringing with them secrets that invite chaos into this idyllic but remote Cotswold forest. Unable to rely on dashing Constable Bailey as he works toward a promotion, Maddie is stuck with Constable Douglass, who, convinced of her guilt, jeopardizes her safety rather than keeping her from it.
